Those responsible for rural land management and food production across Lincolnshire are invited to a series of events taking place in October. Attendees will hear from rural land advisors, land owners and local authority reps on a range of topics designed to stimulate discussion around nature-friendly practices in the county. Topics will include:
- an update on the latest funding and other schemes designed to incentivise land management to support biodiversity;
- landscape-scale opportunities and obstacles;
- sustainable, collaborative land management and food production options.
Attendees will also hear from host venues about their current examples of profitable biodiversity-enhancing and nature-friendly farming practices.
The aim of the events is to share useful information with attendees but also to hear from those responsible for rural land management and food production about their views on the future of nature recovery in the county. There will be sessions discussing Lincolnshire's landscapes, farming and nature, the content of which will be used to help shape a new statutory Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) that the council is drafting. The strategy will set out the county's areas most important for nature, and where the greatest opportunities lie to enhance it further.
Project Manager John Clarkson explains more: "It's vital that we hear from those who own, manage and farm the land, and their advisors, about what could work for them, what prevents them doing more to support nature, and the kind of help and assistance they might need. After all, it's their land and we can't help nature recover without them." He added, "We've already heard from over 140 land managers through our survey in the summer. It's now time to share potential actions, hear about positive examples from here in Lincolnshire, and discuss in greater depth the hopes and concerns that our landowners, farmers and managers have, and that's what these events are for."
Events are taking place at South Ormsby Estate (LN11 8QS) on 1st October at 1pm and The Fenestra Conference Centre (DN15 8RL) on 3rd October at 5.30pm. Both start with a light meal and networking, and the South Ormsby Estate session finished with an optional 'walk and talk' tour. A third event at Doddington Estate is planned for later in October.
Farmers, land managers, land owners, agronomists and advisors are invited to email events@truemanchange.co.uk to reserve a place.
